October 2009: “25th Annual International Conference on Soils, Sediments, Water and Energy” (Amherst, Massachusetts)

March 2009: “19th Annual AEHS Meeting and West Coast Conference on Soils, Sediments and Water” (San Diego, California).

  • Ms. Juliana G. Freitas, from the University of Waterloo, Ontario, won in the platform competition with a work titled “Biodegradation of Hydrocarbons from Sources with Different Ethanol Fractions.”
  • Mr. Chris Griggs, from the U.S. Army Engineering Research Development Center, took the award in the poster competition for a work titled “Solid-Phase Tungsten Speciation by Differential Digestion.”

February 2009: “RemTEC09” (Atlanta, Georgia)

  • Ms. Kelly Fletcher of Georgia Institute of Technology, for her platform presentation on "Stable Carbon Isotope Fractionation of 1,2-Dichloropropane During Degradation by Dehalococcides Population."
  • Ms. Emmie Granbery of Georgia Institute of Technology, for her poster presentation on "Characterization of DNAPL Source Zone Architecture and Associated Plume Response in 2-D Aquifer Cell Experiments."
  • Mr. Tanapon Phenrat of Carnegie Mellon University, for his poster presentation on "Transport Characteristics of Polyelctrolyte-Modified Fe Nanoparticles at High Particle Concentration in Sand Columns."

  • Ms. Juliana G. de Freitas of University of Waterloo, Canada, for her platform presentation on "Challenges for Ethanol Fuels Contaminated Sites Assessment."
  • Ms. Zarath M. Summers of UMASS Amherst, USA, for her platform presentation on "Adaptive Evolution: a Strategy for Better Understanding and Optimizing Environmental Biotechnologies."
  • Mr. Olugbenga J. Owojori of Stellenbosch University, South Africa, for his poster presentation on "Influence of Salinity on Uptake and Toxicity of Zinc in the Earthworm Eisenia Fetida."

  • Ms. Na Wei of the University of Illinois in Champaign, Illinois, for her presentation on ”Anaerobic MTBE/TBA Biodegradation Under Different Terminal Electron Acceptor Processes."

April 2007: “17th Annual AEHS Meeting and West Coast Conference on Soils, Sediments and Water” (San Diego, California)

  • Billa Cyprian Nkem from the Department of Environment, Technology and Spatial Change (TEKSAM) in Roskilde, Denmark won for the work titled “Leaching Behavior of Arsenic from Soil Stabilized by Blast Furnace Slag.”
  • Angela Pérez from Oregon State University in Corvallis, Oregon won in the platform session with the work titled “Nickel Bioavailability Measured by Diffusive Gradient Thin-Films from a Four Year Fertilizer Field Dose Study.”

November 2006: “22nd Annual International Conference on Soils, Sediments and Water” (Amherst, Massachusetts)

  • Ms. Megan Lord-Hoyle of the Royal Military College of Canada, Environmental Sciences Group, in Kingston, Ontario, Canada won for her platform “Bioaccessibility: Improving Risk Assessments for Contaminated Sites.”
  • Mr. Ashish K. Sahu of the University of Massachusetts Amherst won for his platform titled “Perchlorate Reduction in a Packed Bed Bioreactor Using Elemental Sulfur.”
  • Ms. Christina L. Stauber of the University of Massachusetts Amherst won for her poster presentation titled “The Use of Local Carbon Sources in Encouraging Acid Mine Drainage Bioremediation.” Her work was presented during the Acid Mine Drainage session.
