AQUAMEND® is a highly efficient, stable
biological water treatment technology based on
the use of specialized biocarriers and
site-specific process optimization. The
AQUAMEND® biocarriers are specially
designed to enable dense bacterial
colonization and to provide protection for the
micro-organisms. Enhanced protection supports a
stable process by protecting the bacteria
against pH excursions, slugs of toxic compounds
and other conditions that can reduce bioreactor
efficiency.
AQUAMEND® technology has been proven to
provide low maintenance, cost effective
treatment of industrial process water and
groundwater containing a range of compounds
including pentachlorophenol, VOCs, base neutral
acid extractables (BNAs), chlorinated organics,
PAHs, petroleum hydrocarbons, high COD/BOD,
landfill leachate, pesticides and herbicides,
organic explosives, ammonia, as well as
industrial and municipal nitrate. The high
loading rates achieved by AQUAMEND® systems
enable use of smaller reactors and lower
capital costs than alternative technologies for
the treatment of ground or industrial
waters.
The AQUAMEND®
Denitrification Unit (ADU) was designed for
the efficient removal of nitrate from domestic
or septic wastewater that has been previously
treated by an aerobic treatment unit. It can
also be used for treatment of nitrate-laden
groundwater. Due to its unique patent pending
process, if operated as directed the ADU will
not only remove the nitrate, but also maintain
low BOD and solids levels. This fixed-film
process uses the AQUAMEND biocarrier to deliver
very high nitrate removal rates, resulting in a
small footprint and reduced costs.
